This German 1 Mark Darlehnskassenschein (Loan Bank Note) was issued on 11 March 1920 by the Reichsschuldenverwaltung (Imperial Debt Administration). The obverse features ornate scrollwork framing the central denomination, with the Imperial Eagle in red on the left and a watermark area on the right. The note’s text is printed in Gothic script, typical of the period.
The reverse displays a symmetrical floral and geometric design centered around the large numeral “1,” with additional denominations in the corners. These notes were introduced during and after World War I as emergency currency to supplement coin shortages and remained in circulation during Germany’s turbulent postwar economy.
